square foot garden

I'm gonna live where the green grass grows, watch my corn pop up in rows.... (come on country fans, sing it!)
(that's my corn... in the rows...)

We are, for the most part, following the square foot garden method this year.  We missed the date to grow seedlings inside, so it will be a slightly delayed garden this year.  Most plants started as seeds put right into the ground.  We started a new garden in the backyard...

turned our fountain area into an herb garden...

see the wittle babies? aren't they so cute?!!!

and will use the side garden for the rest of the seeds or to transplant plants when thinned out.

But... there is a part of me that wonders if all the time and energy put into this is just creating a large Smorgasbord for  this guy...

  1. I love reading about and seeing other people's gardens! This is my first year gardning and I am already in love with it. We can only do containers where we live but are making do just fine. Even growing pumpkins and watermelon in kiddie pools. ;) Doggy's gorgeous, too.

  2. Cute dog! He eats veggies huh? Well, at least he's a healthy eater :) If you grow herbs you might like this giveaway; http://prairiemother-prairiemother.blogspot.com/2010/04/good-herb-book-giveaway.html?showComment=1272492942848#c6183706619619637383

  3. I found your blog the other day and I love it. I had a weimeraner growing up, and she lived to be almost 16 years old!

  4. I don't know, my golden retriever loves to run in my butterfly garden and chase the lizards. Your boy does look a little rambunkous. He is a beauty. Good luck with your little garden. It is very nicely planted.

  5. Hey, if you figure out how to keep the dog out of the garden, let me know! I have a 1 year old Dutch Shepherd that pulls up my stakes and plays tuggie with the plants! Naughty puppy!

  6. We had our first SFG last year, and our dog did help himself once the plants began to bear fruit. So watch out! :)

  7. I'm so impressed!! Looks great!
How in the world do you keep the bugs/animals from eating your strawberries? Every time I see one starting it disappears before it turns red--totally frustrating!

  8. Hello... I also just found your blog the other day. Luv it :)
My family had two weimaraners when I was very young as well. They are my favourite breed. I hope to get another someday soon. Beautiful animal!~

  9. Thanks for all the comments!
    That is Jake.
Last year, our garden was on the side of the house OUTSIDE of the fence. I have no idea how things will go it in the backyard this year. We are prepared to build a 'dog fence' if need be!

As for the strawberries, they are in a three tiered planter by the house. I have not had bug issues with those plants... yet.
With last years garden having been our first 'real' garden (and the reason this blog/our change of eating started), this is still all a learning experience for us!
